A Walk Through Legends, Military History & Untouched Nature
Pula, Šišan: Monte Madonna → Kala Bay
Discover a side of Istria that even many locals rarely experience. This guided walk begins on Monte Madonna (Svetica), a hill rich in legends, and leads all the way to the hidden Kala Bay.
We start along shaded forest trails, gradually ascending through fragrant Mediterranean macchia. Along the way, you’ll uncover why this place is called “The Saintly One” and hear stories rooted in local tradition. History reveals itself through the remains of WW1 Austro-Hungarian military complex: trenches, bunkers, and strategic positions used from the time of Emperor Franz Joseph to the WW2 and Cold War era.
At the summit, enjoy breathtaking 360° panoramic views over the Adriatic and surrounding islands. From there, we descend into a protected Natura 2000 area, a peaceful landscape of holm oak forest, birds, and untouched nature.
The walk ends at Kala Bay, a hidden cove with crystal-clear sea. In summer, enjoy a swim or relax by the shore. A light break with seasonal fruit gives you time to fully unwind before returning.
Highlights
Hidden trails leading to a secluded bay
360° panoramic views over the Adriatic
Real WWI & WWII military remains
Protected Natura 2000 landscape
Authentic stories blending nature, history, and legend
Step onto the green peninsula of Vižula, where nature and history intertwine across millennia. This easy walk takes you through one of Istria’s most important archaeological sites, surrounded by sea views and Mediterranean vegetation.
The area reveals layers of human presence, from prehistoric settlements to the Roman Empire and early medieval traces. The highlight is a Roman villa (1st–4th century), possibly connected to Crispus, son of Emperor Constantine the Great.
A special moment of the walk is the reconstructed Roman garden, where plants like rosemary, lavender, bay laurel, and myrtle recreate the scents and symbolism of ancient life. The experience ends by the sea, overlooking ancient maritime routes, the same horizon that shaped life here over two thousand years ago.

Discover Mutvoran, one of Istria’s smallest and most atmospheric villages. With fewer than 20 residents, it preserves over three millennia of history in a quiet, timeless setting.
This interpretative walk leads you through layers of the past, from prehistoric Histri settlements and ancient dry-stone walls to medieval fortifications shaped by the Venetian Republic. A highlight is the Mutvoran bestiary, symbolic stone carvings depicting animals in pairs, revealing deeper meanings about balance and human nature.
Walking through narrow paths and along ancient walls, you’ll step into the role of a time explorer, uncovering stories, traditions, and forgotten customs that still echo today. The experience concludes at the Church of St. Mary Magdalene, the spiritual heart of the village.

Storytelling with cultural and historical insights
Explore the Marlera peninsula, a place of open horizons, silence, and raw natural beauty. Located in southeastern Istria, it offers a rare escape from mass tourism.
Walking along coastal trails, you’ll experience a landscape shaped by wind, sea, and time. Discover traditional land use, Mediterranean vegetation, and the unique balance between nature and human presence.
The iconic Marlera Lighthouse (1880) stands as a symbol of navigation and isolation. Nearby lies Punta Greca, the southernmost vineyard in Istria, where extreme conditions produce a rare and distinctive wine.
This experience blends landscape, storytelling, and sensory moments. In summer, enjoy the option to swim in untouched bays.
Historical vision & exotic and Mediterranean nature
Rovinj: Golden Cape (Punta Corrente)
Just minutes from Rovinj’s old town lies Golden Cape (Punta Corrente), a protected park forest combining natural beauty with historical vision.
On this easy circular walk, explore scenic coastal paths, hidden coves, and panoramic views of the Adriatic and Rovinj archipelago. The park was shaped by the vision of Georg von Hütterott, who transformed the area into a carefully designed landscape blending native and exotic plant species.
Along the way, discover historic features like the Montauro quarry, old estate structures, and quiet meadows perfect for rest and reflection. In summer, enjoy the option to swim in crystal-clear coves.

We had a group lesson with Aleksandra in Banjole, Croatia. Our experience truly wouldn't have been the same without her. She possessed a high level of academic and local knowledge, explained in a very dynamic and engaging way! We will definitely return to Banjole with Aleksandra for our next group sessions!
